The Synagogue

The presence of Jews in Corfu has been recorded since the 1100s. Even at the time of German Occupation, during the Second World War, the Jewish community in town was almost two-thousand strong. The existing building of the Synagogue lies more or less at the centre of the old Jewish Quarter, designed in Italianate style, and built in the 19th century on an older building.
