The Monastery of Platytera (I. Kapodistria's grave)

The Monastery of Platytera was founded in 1743 by the Leucadian monk Chrysanthos Syropoulos. Its history from that time is closely threaded into the history of this island. The monastery has also distinguished itself with activities in religion and philanthropy. The Kapodistrias family had close relations with it. Ioannes Kapodistrias, his brother Augoustinos, and their father Antonios-Maria are buried there. Important works of devotional art survive and are retained here. The monastery holds its annual feast day on 15 August.
